In Japan, the position of notary public has a very high status, it is appointed by lawyers of the highest qualification and having a huge legal experience. The presumption of knowledge of law determines the increased requirements for the level of qualification of a notary. A prerequisite for applicants for the position of notaries is Japanese citizenship, passing a qualifying exam, six months of practice and having practical experience in the field of law. An interesting fact is that the profession of a notary in Japan is strictly male, since only 2 women are among the 550 notaries of the country.
