Money is the most important attribute of a market economy. On how the monetary system depends largely on the stability of the economic development of the country .

Money - a special kind of universal product used as a universal equivalent , the cost of which is expressed by all other commodities. Money is a commodity that serves as a medium of exchange, payment, measurement value, wealth figuratively speaking, "product of all commodities ."[1]

The essence of money is characterized by their participation in :

• implementation of the various types of public relations; essence of money can not be the same: it must reflect the development of economic relations in society and changes in the money itself ;
   distribution of gross national product ( GNP) in the acquisition of real estate and land
• Manifestation of the essence here is not the same as the various possibilities of money due to different socio- economic factors ;
• determining the price of expressing the value of goods . Manufacture of goods (services) carried out by people with the help of tools, using objects of labor . Manufactured goods have a value which is determined by totaling the cost of the transferred instruments and objects of labor and living labor newly created value.

Money plays a fundamental role in the modern economy , and the study of the basic functions of money , the organization and development of monetary circulation, causes, consequences and methods of combating inflation is necessary for the subsequent analysis of the functioning of the entire financial system .

Relevance of the topic is justified changing world market situation , the money continues to evolve , and their functions are modified . The degree of efficiency of construction money economy depends on the level of economic development of the country and its rate , the solution of socio - economic problems of society . Practice shows that the cause of many of today's economic disasters ( depreciation of money , defaulted , unemployment, business failures , etc.) is the adoption of wrong decisions in the monetary and financial sphere .

The aim of this work is to study traditional and contemporary manifestations of money based on the functional analysis of the Russian monetary system .

To achieve this goal were set and solved the following problems :

• Expand the nature and origin of the money ;
• Identify the main types of money ;
• To study modern functions of money ;
• Identify features of the functions of money at the present stage for Russia ;
• Calculate monetary indicators on the example of one of the subjects of the Russian Federation .

In this paper, we used the following methods:

• Analytical
• The method of deduction and induction
• Mathematical and statistical
• Theoretical

Work allows us to consider the question from different angles , as well as to evaluate the importance and necessity of the existence of money.
